James Sidney Hayner
James Sidney Hayner, 69, of Lake Gaston, died Thursday, January 1, 2009.
Mr. Hayner was born November 5, 1939 in West Virginia to the late Sidney and Leona Hager Hayner. He was retired from J. C. Penney Co. after thirty-eight and one-half years of service. After beginning his career in Ashland, KY, he also held positions in Ohio, NJ, PA, VA, and ending in Raleigh, NC. Mr. Hayner was a member of the E. 10th Street Church of Christ in Roanoke Rapids, NC, serving as deacon and elder until his declining health.
He was proceeded in death by three brothers, Frank, Tom, and Aubrey Hayner and one great-grandson, Kevin Blake Hayner.
Mr. Hayner is survived by his wife, Sandy, of the home; two daughters, Sharon A. Boyd and her husband, Bryan, of Warrenton, VA and Leigh Ann Prigge of Malinta, Ohio; two sons, James G. Hayner of Jackson, Ohio and David Clay and his wife, Erin, of Raleigh; and ten grandchildren, Keith, Braxtin, Stacey, Kevin, Gary, Derrick, Adam, Alyson, David and Adam.
Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends Friday, January 2, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at East 10th Street Church of Christ with Minister David Chapman officiating. Interment services will be private.
